Mission Projects

Most of the primary schools within the Parish are made of mud blocks or sticks with grass roofs.  Some students are literally studying under the mango trees.  This newly constructed concrete school of St. Dominic was constructed in the village of Kamathidi with the aid of generous donors from Spain.

The missionaries also built new chapels and repaired the old existing chapels so people will have a better place to celebrate the sacraments and to pray.  The Church (L) is the Our Lady of Sierra Leone Parish Church.  The new chapel (R) is the Chapel of St. Therese of the Child Jesus in Kabaka-Karathon Village.

The Mission has built a multi-purpose court suited for various athletic activities.  This facility was most welcomed by the community especially the youth who went into sports and left behind their vices and unhealthy activities.

COMMISSION ON MISSION

Province of Saint Ezekiel Moreno

Order of Augustinian Recollects (OAR)

The mission educational apostolate also includes scholarships to the poor and deserving students.  The pictures show the first batches of the mission scholars together with the Recollect missionaries.

Many indigent people even our Muslim brothers and other Christian brothers have come to the Mission for medical assistance.  There were many instances when the missionaries find themselves dressing the wounds of the sick.  In serious medical cases, patients are brought to the hospital for free treatment and medicines.

As part of livelihood program, Masanke (special palm trees) were provided and planted in many villages.  It is expected that after 5 years, the palm trees will produce palm oil which the community can sell and the money can be used for the maintenance of their village schools and chapels.  People are taught to become self-reliant.
